Why use this tool
Ten units in one place
Milligrams, carats, grams, ounces, pounds, kilograms, stone, US tons, metric tonnes, and imperial long tons.
Three different tons, handled properly
A US short ton is 2,000 lb, an imperial long ton is 2,240 lb, and a metric tonne is 1,000 kg. Each is a separate unit here, not a rounding of the others.
Stone done right
One stone is exactly 14 pounds, so body weights convert cleanly between British, US, and metric habits.
Adjustable precision
Show whole numbers for a quick read, or up to six decimal places for recipe, lab, and shipping work.
Runs on your device
Every calculation happens in the page as you type. Nothing is uploaded and no account is required.
About this tool
The Weight Converter turns one mass into every other common unit at the same time. Enter a value, choose the unit it is measured in, pick the unit you want, and the result updates as you type. A full list underneath shows the same weight in milligrams, carats, grams, ounces, pounds, kilograms, stone, US tons, metric tonnes, and imperial long tons.
Every unit is defined relative to one gram, so results stay consistent whichever unit you start from. A pound is exactly 453.59237 g, an ounce is exactly one sixteenth of that, and a stone is exactly 14 pounds. Carats are exactly 0.2 g, which is the definition used for gemstones. Strictly these are units of mass rather than weight, but everyday usage treats them as the same thing and this tool follows that convention.
Tons are the part people get wrong. A US ton, sometimes called a short ton, is 2,000 pounds, or about 907.18 kg. An imperial ton, also called a long ton, is 2,240 pounds, or about 1,016.05 kg. A metric tonne is 1,000 kg, which sits between them. The difference is about 10 percent between the short and long ton, enough to matter in shipping and freight, so this tool lists all three separately and shows a reminder whenever a ton is selected on either side.

Frequently asked questions
- How many pounds are in a kilogram?
- One kilogram is about 2.20462 pounds. The exact relationship runs the other way: a pound is defined as exactly 453.59237 grams, and this tool uses that definition.
- How much is a stone in pounds?
- Exactly 14 pounds, or about 6.35 kg. Stone is still common in the UK and Ireland for body weight, so 11 st 4 lb is 158 lb, or roughly 71.7 kg.
- What is the difference between a US ton and an imperial ton?
- A US ton, or short ton, is 2,000 pounds, about 907.18 kg. An imperial ton, or long ton, is 2,240 pounds, about 1,016.05 kg. A metric tonne is 1,000 kg. All three are listed separately here because the gap between them is large enough to change a freight quote.
- Is this converting weight or mass?
- Technically mass. Kilograms, pounds, and ounces all measure mass, and the ratios between them do not change with gravity. Everyday language calls it weight, so the tool does too.
- Are my numbers sent anywhere?
- No. All conversion happens on your device inside the page. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored.
