Online Stopwatch

A precise online stopwatch with start, stop, lap, and reset, showing elapsed time to hundredths of a second with split and cumulative lap times.

Elapsed time
00:00.00

Ready to start

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, and the time stays accurate in a background tab.

How to use the online stopwatch

  1. Start the stopwatch

Press Start and the time begins counting up, showing minutes, seconds, and hundredths of a second.

  2. Record laps

While it runs, press Lap to record a split. Each lap keeps both the time since the last lap and the total elapsed time.

  3. Stop and resume

Press Stop to pause the count, then Resume to carry on from where you left off without losing your laps.

  4. Reset when done

Press Reset to clear the time and the lap list back to zero, ready for a fresh run.

Why use this tool

Hundredths-of-a-second precision

The readout shows minutes, seconds, and hundredths, and rolls into hours automatically once a run passes the hour mark.

Lap splits and totals

Each lap records both the split, the time since the previous lap, and the cumulative total elapsed at that point.

Accurate in a background tab

The elapsed time is measured from the real clock, so it stays correct even when the tab sits in the background or the machine briefly sleeps.

Stop and resume without losing laps

Pausing keeps your recorded laps and the running total, so you can stop and pick the count back up at any time.

Live title-bar time

While it runs, the elapsed time appears in the browser tab title so you can track it from another window.

Free with nothing to install

No account and no download; the stopwatch runs entirely in your browser.

About this tool

This online stopwatch counts elapsed time up from zero and shows it to hundredths of a second, rolling into hours once a run gets long enough. Start begins the count, Stop pauses it, Resume continues from where you paused, and Reset clears everything back to zero. It is the everyday tool for timing anything by hand: a workout set, a lap on the track, a speech rehearsal, a cooking step, a science experiment, or how long a task really takes.

The Lap button records a split each time you press it, and every lap keeps two figures side by side: the split, meaning the time since the previous lap, and the cumulative total elapsed at that moment. Laps are listed newest first so the most recent split is always on top, which makes it easy to compare one interval against the last. Stopping never discards the laps, so you can pause partway through and resume the same session.

Because the time is measured from your device clock rather than by counting frames, it stays accurate even if the tab is throttled in the background or the machine sleeps for a moment, and it never leaves your browser. To count down instead of up, use the countdown timer; for focus and break cycles, the pomodoro timer is the better fit; and to add or subtract spans of hours, minutes, and seconds on paper, use the duration calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How precise is the stopwatch?
It displays time to hundredths of a second and measures elapsed time from your device clock, so the reading is as accurate as that clock allows for everyday timing by hand.
What is the difference between split and total in the lap list?
Split is the time since the previous lap, so it measures just that one interval. Total is the cumulative elapsed time from the start up to that lap. Every lap shows both.
Does it keep accurate time if I switch tabs?
Yes. The stopwatch works from the real clock rather than counting frames, so leaving it in a background tab or switching apps does not make it drift. When you return, it shows the correct elapsed time.
Can I pause and continue without losing my laps?
Yes. Pressing Stop pauses the count and keeps every recorded lap and the running total. Press Resume to carry on from the same point, or Reset to clear the time and laps for a fresh run.
Is anything uploaded or saved?
No. The stopwatch runs entirely in your browser, so your times and laps are never uploaded or stored on a server. Closing the tab clears everything.
