How to convert HEIC to WebP online

  1. Add your HEIC photos

About this tool

HEIC and WebP are both modern formats that beat JPEG on size, but they were made for different places. HEIC is what iPhones save photos in, and it is barely supported outside Apple devices. WebP was designed for web pages and is supported by every current browser, so it is the format that image optimisation guides and page speed audits recommend. Converting one to the other takes a photo from the camera roll to the smallest form a website can use.

This tool converts HEIC and HEIF photos to WebP entirely in your browser. Drop any number of files, set the quality slider, and press Convert. Photos decode one after another with a progress bar, each row reports the original size next to the WebP size, and a single file downloads directly while batches of two or more save together as one ZIP.

On quality: WebP at 80 percent generally looks the same as JPEG at 90 while being smaller than both the JPEG and, often, the original HEIC. The slider starts at 90 to be safe; drop it to 75 or 80 for images that will be displayed at typical web sizes. Pixel-perfect output is not what WebP is for, so if the photo is going into an editor, use HEIC to PNG instead.

What quality should I use for WebP?

Is WebP better than JPG?

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your photos never leave your device and are never sent to a server.
Why does nothing happen when I drop a photo?
Conversion is a deliberate step here. After adding photos, press the Convert button under the list. That way you can check the quality setting and add more photos before anything runs.
Why did one of my files fail to convert?
Usually the file is not actually a HEIC image, for example a JPG that was renamed with a .heic extension. A failed file shows an error on its own row and does not stop the rest of the batch.
