About this tool

This tool builds a color palette from a photo, logo, or screenshot. Drop a JPEG, PNG, or WebP file, or paste a screenshot from the clipboard, and the dominant colors appear as swatches, each labelled with its HEX and RGB value. Unlike a single-pixel eyedropper, it looks at the whole image and groups similar pixels together, so the result is the set of colors that actually dominate the picture rather than one spot you happened to click.

You choose how many swatches to pull: 4 for the core tones, or up to 12 to catch the accents as well. Colors that are almost the same are merged into one so the palette stays useful instead of listing a dozen near-identical greens, and transparent areas are ignored, which means a cut-out subject on an empty background sets the palette rather than the background. Large images are grouped down to a small working size first, so even a high-resolution photo returns its palette without a wait.

Everything runs on your own machine and no image is uploaded, which matters for unreleased artwork or a client logo under embargo. Extracting a palette is a starting point, not the end: once a value is on the clipboard, the color converter rewrites it between formats, the color palette generator builds a full scheme around a chosen color, and the contrast checker tells you whether two of the extracted colors are readable together. Frequently asked questions

How are the colors chosen?
The tool reads pixels across the whole image, groups the ones that are close in color, and returns the largest groups as swatches. That surfaces the tones that fill the most of the picture rather than any single pixel.
How many colors can I get?
Four, six, eight, or twelve. A smaller count gives you the headline colors, a larger count adds the secondary and accent tones. Switching the count re-reads the same image instantly.
Why are two similar shades shown as one?
Colors that are almost identical are merged into a single swatch on purpose, so a palette of, say, six colors gives six genuinely different tones instead of six versions of the same one.
What happens with transparent images?
Transparent and near-transparent pixels are skipped, so a PNG or WebP with a cut-out subject builds its palette from the subject, not from the empty area around it.
Which image formats are supported?
JPEG, PNG, and WebP, whether dropped, browsed, or pasted from the clipboard. Very large images are grouped down to a small working size before analysis to keep the tool fast.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
