How to convert speed units

  1. Enter a speed

Type a number into the input field at the top of the tool.

  2. Pick the source unit

Choose which unit your number is measured in, such as mph or km/h.

  3. Read every unit

The full results list updates instantly with the same speed in every other unit.

  4. Copy a result

Use the copy button next to any unit, or copy the whole list at the bottom.

Why use this tool

Every unit at once

One value converts to mph, km/h, m/s, knots, ft/s and mach at the same time, so you never chain conversions.

Adjustable precision

Slide from whole numbers up to six decimal places to match the accuracy your work needs.

Sensible edge cases

Zero returns zero everywhere, negative speeds are rejected, and very high mach values still read cleanly.

Copy any row

Grab a single converted value or the entire list with one tap, formatted and ready to paste.

Runs on your device

All math happens in the page as you type. Nothing is uploaded and no account is required.

About this tool

The Speed Converter turns a single speed into every common unit at once. Enter a number, choose the unit it is measured in, and the results list shows the same speed in miles per hour, kilometres per hour, metres per second, knots, feet per second and mach. There is no convert button to press and no waiting. Each value recalculates the moment you type or change the source unit.

Every conversion routes through a shared base of metres per second, so the numbers stay consistent no matter which unit you start from. Miles per hour and knots use their exact international definitions, and mach is measured against the standard speed of sound at sea level. That makes the tool suitable for quick estimates and for figures you need to trust, from car speeds to wind readings to aircraft cruise numbers.

A precision slider lets you show clean whole numbers for a rough sense of scale or up to six decimal places when small differences matter. Zero converts to zero across the board, and negative inputs are gently rejected rather than producing confusing results. You can copy any single row or the whole list in one tap.

Frequently asked questions

Which speed units are supported?
Six units convert at once: miles per hour (mph), kilometres per hour (km/h), metres per second (m/s), knots, feet per second (ft/s) and mach.
How is mach calculated?
Mach is the ratio of your speed to the standard speed of sound at sea level, roughly 343 metres per second. It is an approximation, since the true speed of sound changes with air temperature and altitude.
Why can I not enter a negative speed?
Speed is a magnitude and cannot be negative, so negative input is rejected. If you need direction as well, treat that separately from the numeric speed.
How accurate are the conversions?
Each unit uses its exact international definition and every value passes through a shared metres per second base, so results are exact to the number of decimal places you choose.
Is my input sent anywhere?
No. Every calculation runs on your device as you type. Nothing is uploaded and no account is needed.
