How to crop an image into a circle

  1. Add your image

    Drop a JPG, PNG, or WebP onto the tool, click to browse, or paste one from your clipboard. It is cropped straight away.

  2. Set the diameter

    The circle starts at the largest one that fits, centered. Lower the diameter slider to crop in closer on the middle of the picture.

  3. Add a ring if you want one

    The ring slider draws a border just inside the edge of the circle, in whichever color you pick.

About this tool

Most platforms display avatars as circles but store whatever square you upload, which means the corners of your picture are quietly discarded by software you do not control. Cropping the circle yourself puts that decision back in your hands: you see exactly what survives, and the file you upload already matches what everyone will see.

The tool takes the largest centered square from the image, clips it to a circle, and writes a square PNG with the area outside the circle left empty. The diameter slider crops in tighter when the subject is small in the frame, which is the usual fix for a photo taken at a distance. An optional ring can be drawn just inside the edge, sized as a percentage of the diameter so it looks the same on a 200 pixel avatar and a 2000 pixel export.

PNG is the only sensible output here, because JPG has no transparency and would fill the corners with black. If a platform insists on a rectangle, a solid background is a better fit, and the rounded corners tool covers the softer square look.
