How to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius

  1. Type the Fahrenheit reading

Enter the number from your thermostat, recipe, or forecast into the Fahrenheit box.

  2. Read the Celsius answer

The Celsius value appears immediately, with the kelvin equivalent underneath it.

  3. Pick your decimals

Choose whole degrees for a quick read or up to four decimal places when the exact figure matters.

  4. Copy or work backwards

Copy the Celsius value, or type into the Celsius box to convert back to Fahrenheit.

Why use this tool

Oven dial reference

The table covers 300, 350, 425, and 500 F, so a recipe written for a European oven stops being guesswork.

Body heat and fever marks

98.6 F and the 100.4 F fever threshold are listed with their Celsius values for reading a thermometer bought abroad.

Both directions in one field

Type Fahrenheit to get Celsius, or type Celsius to get Fahrenheit. There is no mode to switch and no button to press.

Kelvin alongside

Every result shows kelvin as well, which is the scale lab work and physics homework usually ask for.

Absolute zero guard

Anything colder than minus 459.67 F is flagged instead of being converted as though it were a real temperature.

Nothing leaves your device

The math runs in your browser as you type. No value you enter is uploaded, logged, or stored.

About this tool

Fahrenheit is the everyday scale in the United States and almost nowhere else, so the moment you open a British recipe, a German weather app, or a thermometer bought overseas, you need the other number. This converter takes the Fahrenheit value you already have and gives you Celsius the instant you type it. The arithmetic is subtract 32, then divide by 1.8: 212 F becomes 100 C, 68 F becomes 20 C, and 98.6 F becomes 37 C.

The reference table is built around the readings Americans actually run into. A home freezer sits at 0 F. Water freezes at 32 F and boils at 212 F. The 100.4 F fever threshold that pediatricians use is 38 C. Oven dials get their own rows, because a recipe that says 180 C is really asking for 350 F, and 220 C is a hot 425 F oven. Scanning the table is often faster than typing anything at all.

You control how the result is rounded, from whole degrees for a glance at the forecast to four decimal places for coursework where the rounding matters. Kelvin appears under every conversion, and a reading colder than absolute zero gets flagged rather than treated as valid. Going the other way is one keystroke away in the Celsius to Fahrenheit converter. For the rest of a foreign recipe, the cooking converter handles cups, grams, and milliliters, and the unit converter covers length and mass.

Frequently asked questions

What is the formula for Fahrenheit to Celsius?
Subtract 32 from the Fahrenheit value, then divide by 1.8 (the same as multiplying by five ninths). So 50 F becomes 10 C, and 90 F becomes about 32.2 C.
What is 350 F in Celsius?
350 F is about 176.7 C, which most recipes and oven dials round to 180 C. The reference table lists the common baking temperatures alongside their Celsius equivalents.
What is normal body temperature in Celsius?
98.6 F is 37 C. The commonly used fever threshold of 100.4 F works out to exactly 38 C, which is why that odd-looking Fahrenheit number is the one clinics quote.
Can I convert Celsius back to Fahrenheit here?
Yes. Type into the Celsius box and the Fahrenheit box updates instead. Whichever box you edited last drives the other, so the two can never disagree.
Is anything I type sent anywhere?
No. The conversion happens in your browser as you type. Nothing is uploaded to a server, and nothing is stored after you close the page.
