Square Footage Calculator

Add up the area of rooms and spaces in any shape, mix feet, inches, yards, meters, and centimeters in one list, and get the total in square feet and square meters with an optional material cost.

Default unit

New areas start in this unit. Change any area’s unit below to mix measurements in one total.

How to calculate square footage

  1. Add your areas

Add a row for each space, choose rectangle, circle, or triangle, and enter its measurements.

  2. Choose the unit

Set the unit for each area to feet, inches, yards, meters, or centimeters, mixing units freely.

  3. Read the total

See the combined total in square feet and square meters, with a breakdown for every area.

  4. Add a price

Enter a price per square foot to estimate the total flooring or material cost.

Why use this tool

Any shape

Measure rectangles and rooms, circles, and triangles in the same list. Each area is calculated with the right formula and added to the running total.

Mix units without errors

Enter one area in feet, another in meters, and a third in inches. Every measurement is converted to a common base before the areas are summed.

Square feet and square meters

Get the total in both square feet and square meters at once, plus square yards and acres, so the number fits whatever job you are quoting.

Per-area breakdown

See how many square feet each room or shape contributes, and what share of the total it is, so you can check a single measurement quickly.

Optional cost estimate

Add a price per square foot and the tool multiplies it by the total area to estimate flooring, turf, or material cost.

Runs entirely in your browser

Every measurement and total is calculated on your device as you type. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or logged.

About this tool

This square footage calculator adds up the area of any number of spaces so you can size a whole floor, wall, yard, or project in one place. Add a row for each space, choose whether it is a rectangle, a circle, or a triangle, and enter its dimensions. The tool applies the correct formula to each shape, length times width for a rectangle, pi times radius squared for a circle, and half of base times height for a triangle, then sums the individual areas into a single total.

Each area carries its own unit, so you can measure one room in feet, a rug in inches, and a garden in meters without doing any conversion by hand. Everything is converted to a common base before the areas are combined, which means mixed measurements never produce a wrong total. Results appear in square feet and square meters together, along with square yards and acres, and a per-area breakdown shows what each space contributes. Add a price per square foot to estimate flooring, tile, carpet, turf, or paint cost. To work out how much wall paint a space needs, the paint calculator takes over from here, and the unit converter handles any stray measurement that is not a length.

Treat the total as an accurate geometric figure and add a waste allowance for cuts, offcuts, and pattern matching when you order materials. Zero or empty measurements are ignored until you complete them, and very large numbers are flagged rather than shown as a broken result. Every calculation runs in your browser as you type, and nothing you enter is uploaded, stored, or logged.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate the square footage of a room?
For a rectangular room, multiply its length by its width in the same unit. This calculator does that for you, and also handles round and triangular spaces, so you can add every part of a floor and read the combined square footage.
Can I mix feet, meters, and inches?
Yes. Each area has its own unit, and the tool converts every measurement to a common base before adding the areas together, so a list that mixes feet, inches, yards, meters, and centimeters still gives a correct total.
How is the area of a circle or triangle worked out?
A circle uses pi times the radius squared, so enter the radius, not the diameter. A triangle uses half of the base multiplied by the height. Each result is added to the rectangles to make the grand total.
How do I estimate flooring or material cost?
Enter a price per square foot in the cost box. The tool multiplies it by the total square footage to give an estimated cost. Add a little extra when ordering to cover cuts and waste.
What do the square meters and acres figures mean?
The same total area is shown in more than one unit at once. Square feet and square meters suit rooms and interiors, square yards suit carpet and turf, and acres suit land and large plots.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. Every measurement and result stays on your device. All calculations run in your browser as you type and nothing is sent to a server, stored, or logged.
