How to convert force units

  1. Enter a value

Type the force amount you want to convert into the value field.

  2. Pick the source unit

Choose the unit your value is in, such as newtons, kilogram-force, or pound-force.

  3. Read every conversion

See the equivalent in all other force units update live as you type.

  4. Copy what you need

Copy a single row or copy all conversions at once with the button below.

Why use this tool

Every unit at once

One value converts to newtons, kilonewtons, dynes, kilogram-force, pound-force, ounce-force, and poundals simultaneously.

Handles tiny and huge values

Dyne-scale and kilonewton-scale results switch to compact scientific notation so nothing overflows.

Adjustable precision

Slide the decimal places from 0 to 8 to match the accuracy your work needs.

Copy one or all

Copy any single conversion or grab the whole list in one tap for pasting into notes or a spreadsheet.

Runs entirely on your device

Values are converted locally as you type. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

About this tool

The force converter turns any force amount into every other common unit at the same time. Enter a value, pick its unit, and newtons, kilonewtons, dynes, kilogram-force, pound-force, ounce-force, and poundals all appear together.

Every unit is defined relative to the newton, the base unit of force in the metric system. One newton is the force that accelerates a one kilogram mass by one metre per second squared. Your input is first converted to newtons, then divided out into each target unit, so the whole set stays consistent no matter which unit you start from. Kilogram-force is the weight of one kilogram under standard gravity, which is why one kgf equals about 9.807 newtons.

Force units span a wide range. A dyne, from the centimetre-gram-second system, is only 0.00001 newtons, while a kilonewton is a thousand newtons, the kind of load seen in structural and lifting work. Pound-force and ounce-force are common in imperial engineering, and the poundal is an older absolute unit equal to about 0.138 newtons. To keep results readable, very small and very large numbers appear in scientific notation while everyday values use plain grouped digits.

Negative amounts are rejected and non-numeric input shows a short hint instead of a broken result. For related conversions, try the torque converter for rotational force, the pressure converter for force per area, or the everyday unit converter.

Frequently asked questions

How many newtons are in a pound-force?
One pound-force equals about 4.4482 newtons. It is the gravitational force on a one pound mass under standard gravity.
What is kilogram-force?
Kilogram-force is the weight of one kilogram under standard gravity. One kgf equals exactly 9.80665 newtons, which is the standard gravity value times one kilogram.
What is a dyne?
A dyne is the force unit of the centimetre-gram-second system. One dyne equals 0.00001 newtons, so a newton is 100,000 dynes.
Can I convert negative force values?
No. Force here is treated as a magnitude, so negative inputs are rejected with a short hint. Enter zero or a positive number.
Is my input sent anywhere?
No. Every conversion happens on your device as you type. Nothing you enter is uploaded, logged, or stored.
