About this tool
Remove Numbers strips numeric content out of pasted text. The Whole numbers mode instead treats a full number, including its decimal point and thousands separators, as a single unit to remove, so "1,234.56" disappears as one value rather than leaving stray commas and periods behind.
Turning on "Keep numbers, remove everything else" flips the tool into the opposite job: instead of stripping numbers out, it strips everything that is not a number, which is a fast way to pull the digits out of a formatted phone number, an ID with dashes, or a product code buried in prose. Because every non-numeric character is removed in that mode, including any spaces between numbers, the collapse option has nothing left to tidy; it only makes a visible difference in the normal removal mode, where taking numbers out of a sentence can leave double spaces behind.
