About this tool

Inverting an image swaps each color for its opposite: black becomes white, white becomes black, and everything in between crosses to the other side of the scale. It is how scanned film negatives are turned back into positives, and it is a quick way to check that a design still reads when its values are reversed.

The full negative mode does exactly that, flipping all three color channels. That is faithful to what a negative looks like, but it is rarely what people want from a diagram, because a blue chart line comes out orange. The lightness only mode solves that: it reads each pixel as a hue, a saturation, and a lightness, then inverts just the lightness. A white background goes near black, a black label goes near white, and the brand colors in between stay recognisably themselves.

Both modes leave the alpha channel alone, so transparency in a PNG or WebP survives, and the output is written back in the format you started with.
