About this tool
This final grade calculator answers the question every student asks before an exam: what score do I need on the final to end up with the grade I want? Give it your current grade, how much the final is worth as a share of the total course grade, and the overall grade you are aiming for, and it solves the weighted average equation for the one unknown, the score on the final itself.

- How is the score I need on the final calculated?
- A course grade is treated as a weighted average of your current grade and the final exam score. The tool rearranges that equation to solve for the final exam score, given your current grade, the weight of the final, and the overall grade you want.
- What does "not possible" mean?
- It means no score on the final, including a perfect 100, can bring your overall grade up to the target you entered. The result shows the highest overall grade you can still reach so you know exactly how far short a perfect score would fall.
- What does "already guaranteed" mean?
- It means your current grade and the final’s weight already lock in at least the target grade, even if you scored zero on the final. The result shows the lowest overall grade you could end up with in that case.
- How do I enter my current grade if I do not know it as one number?
- Switch to the graded items mode and list each assignment, test, or quiz with its score and its weight as a percentage of the course. The tool calculates your current weighted grade from that list and uses it automatically.
- Does this handle drop-lowest scores, curves, or extra credit?
- Not automatically. The calculation assumes a plain weighted average of your current grade and the final. If your course drops a low score, curves grades, or offers extra credit, adjust your current grade or the final’s weight to reflect that before reading the result.
- Is my grade data uploaded anywhere?
