Refine the palette
Pick a hue range like pinks, blues, or warm tones and choose how many colors you want, from 4 to 12.
Regenerate until it fits
Click Regenerate to roll a new set of pastels with the same settings until you find a combination you like.
Copy the colors
Click any swatch to copy its hex code, or copy the whole palette as a list of hex values.
Why use this tool
True pastels every time
Every color is sampled in a fixed high-lightness, low-to-mid saturation band, so results always read as soft pastels rather than random bright colors.
Balanced hue spread
Hues are distributed evenly across the chosen range with slight variation, so palettes stay varied instead of clumping around one hue.
Hue range presets
Limit results to reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, purples, pinks, or broader warm and cool ranges.
Readable labels on every swatch
Each hex label is rendered in a deep shade of its own hue, checked against WCAG AA contrast so it stays legible on the pale background.
One-click copying
Click a swatch to copy a single hex code, or copy the full palette as a newline-separated list ready to paste anywhere.
Runs entirely in your browser
Colors are generated on your device. Nothing is uploaded and no account is needed.
About this tool
This pastel color generator creates random palettes of soft, muted colors and shows the hex code for each one. Pastels are light, gentle colors: think baby pink, mint green, powder blue, and pale lavender. Instead of rolling completely random colors and hoping some look soft, this tool constrains every result to a fixed high-lightness band with low-to-mid saturation, so each swatch comes out as a genuine pastel.
A palette appears as soon as the page loads, and the refine controls update it instantly. The hue range presets narrow results to one color family, such as pinks for a soft feminine palette or blues and greens for something calmer, while the warm and cool presets cover wider slices of the spectrum. You can generate between 4 and 12 colors at a time, and hues are spread evenly across the chosen range so a large palette does not bunch up on near-identical shades. Keep clicking Regenerate until a set clicks.
Pastel palettes are a staple of branding, nursery and wedding design, website backgrounds, presentation decks, and social media graphics. Click any swatch to copy its hex code, or use the main button to copy the whole palette at once. To build on a color you like, explore relationships between hues on the color wheel, or identify the nearest named shade with the color name finder.
Frequently asked questions
- How does the pastel color generator work?
- Each color is built from a random hue inside your chosen range, combined with low-to-mid saturation and a fixed high lightness. That constraint is what makes every result a soft pastel instead of an arbitrary random color.
- What makes a color a pastel?
- Pastels are colors with high lightness and softened saturation, which gives them a pale, washed-out look. This tool keeps lightness between roughly 82% and 90% and saturation between 45% and 80%, a range that reliably reads as pastel.
- Can I generate pastels in just one color family?
- Yes. The hue range presets restrict results to reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, purples, or pinks, and the warm and cool presets cover broader sections of the spectrum. Any hue samples the full wheel.
- How do I copy the colors?
- Click any swatch to copy its hex code on its own, or use the Copy palette button to copy all of the current colors as a newline-separated list of hex values.
- Is anything uploaded or stored?
- No. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent to a server. Palettes are not saved between visits, so copy the hex codes you want to keep before regenerating.
- How many colors can I generate at once?
- You can generate 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 pastel colors per palette. Regenerating keeps your hue range and count settings and only rolls new colors.
