About this tool

PNG is the format to reach for when an image needs to survive further editing, sit on a transparent background, or be pasted into software that refuses JPG. Converting a JPG to PNG does not undo the compression that already happened, but it does stop any further loss: from that point on, every save keeps the pixels exactly as they are, which matters when a graphic is going through several rounds of edits.

The conversion is deliberately setting-free. The JPG is decoded, drawn once, and written back out as a lossless PNG at the same pixel dimensions. Because the file is rebuilt from raw pixels rather than copied, the metadata a camera or phone attached to the original, including the capture date and any location coordinates, is not carried over. That is a useful side effect before posting a photo publicly, and the image metadata remover does the same job while keeping the original format.

Expect the PNG to be larger, often several times larger, especially for photographs. That is the trade for lossless storage.
