HEIC to GIF Converter

How to convert HEIC to GIF online

About this tool

GIF is one of the oldest image formats still in use and one of the most widely supported: forums, legacy content systems, embedded devices, and some office software accept it when they accept nothing newer. Its limitation is colour. A GIF holds at most 256 colours per frame, which is fine for logos and diagrams and a real constraint for photographs, where smooth skies and skin tones turn into visible bands.

This tool converts HEIC and HEIF photos from an iPhone into still GIF images entirely in your browser. Drop any number of files and press Convert. Each photo is decoded, its colours are reduced to a palette of 256 chosen from the photo itself, and the result is written as a single-frame GIF. How do I convert HEIC to GIF?

Why does the GIF look grainy or banded?
GIF can only hold 256 colours per image. Photos contain thousands of subtle shades, so smooth gradients like skies become visible steps. That is a property of the format, not a fault in the conversion. Use HEIC to JPG or HEIC to PNG for full colour.
Will the GIF be animated?
No. A HEIC photo is a single still image, so the GIF has one frame. To make an animated GIF, start from a video clip with the video to GIF tool.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your photos never leave your device and are never sent to a server.
Why does nothing happen when I drop a photo?
Conversion is a deliberate step here. After adding photos, press the Convert button under the list. That way you can add or remove photos before anything runs.
Why did one of my files fail to convert?
Usually the file is not actually a HEIC image, for example a JPG that was renamed with a .heic extension. A failed file shows an error on its own row and does not stop the rest of the batch.
