How to convert a PNG to JPG

About this tool

PNG stores every pixel exactly, which is ideal for logos and flat graphics but wasteful for photographs and screenshots of photographic content. JPG throws away detail your eye is unlikely to notice and usually lands somewhere between a fifth and a twentieth of the size. This tool does that conversion in the browser: the PNG is decoded, drawn onto a background color, and encoded as JPG at whichever quality you pick.

Quality defaults to 90 percent, which is close to visually lossless for most images. Dropping to around 70 percent typically halves the file again and is fine for anything that will be viewed on a screen at normal size. Below about 50 percent, blocky artefacts start showing up around hard edges and text, so a screenshot with small type is better kept high or left as a PNG.

Because JPG has no transparency, a PNG with a cutout has to be flattened onto something. The color picker controls that, so a logo on a transparent canvas can land on white, on your brand color, or on black without a detour through an editor. If you need the transparency to survive, convert to WebP instead, or use the image format converter to pick from all three formats. How do I convert a PNG to JPG?
